Tiptoe through the Landmines

So much for metal... This one started as an experiment trying to get grays that had more colorful lighting. I'm not sure how well it worked out - passable I guess. . Anyone have tips for lighting? comments?

Lately I'm working exclusively on grays. Basically start with a mid gray as a base, with your default brush and 80 or so opacity.

Add some quick tones using dodge and burn, and then with the brush start refining, working only in gray till you get some nice copntrast, but try to keep most shading soft, then add some good highlights/dark areas.

For color, just add a new layer with an overlay effect, catch the airbrush and start setting some tones with color, should work nicely. After that add another layer, Color Dodge this time and add some white, that'll look messy for a while but work on the brightness of the white and then erase where you want the shadows to be and you should get some good results.

Its pretty hard to explain actually, in person I'm much better at this, haha. Sorry its all a bit discombobulated

Hey Xavi,

Long time no see... How's EA? I can't say I fully grok your comment but I like the idea of working in color as an overlay layer... I'll play around with it - maybe a new chernovan tonight... Is everything you've drawn lately under NDA? stupid corporate overlords!

EA's good! Yeah regrettably all my new stuff is NDA'd to hell, but Im getting pumped to start doing some new stuff soon :)

For a better explanation of what I meant, I'm going to have to get you the video I got it from. Its one of the Massive Black guys giving a video tutorial on weapon design and he explains his whole process as he works trough it. Ill put the video up on my server and let you know when that happens. Easily the most stuff I learned lately has come from that.

And yes, corporate overlords and etcetera.
